Hi john! I can’t describe my admiration for you and the whole bunch of people standing behind Alien Arena Team. What you did is what you wrote in your post: defacto you and Lee Salzman are the piooners of a new era for the open source gaming. Is incredible what you did in Alien Arena: soft shadows, ragdolls, skeletal animations, huge maps. I had a dream to create an open source single player game but I’m not a coder (I’m a graphic designer) so I’m using Darkplaces engine with original quake game code to create a tech/doomIII-like game; it’s not doing bad but the problem is lack of documentation and some missing features (like ragdolls and a decent documentation about bone models support). So I’m thinking of CRX engine. Have you ever thought about a single player version of your game? Do you need a graphic designer to create models, props, etc.? I know that maybe you’re super busy (me too)but it could be very useful for me to have some hints by you for my game (technical specifics, possibility of use crx game engine with quake2 game code, and a ton of other questions!). If you’re interested (and, of course, if you have free time to spend!!
) contact me! I left my email in the reply form.
Bye! And congratulations again for your game.
Thanks! I think CRX would be a great choice for any game, and while we did strip out some of the single player game code, it wouldn’t be hard to add something like that back in(i.e, save games, monster AI, etc). The game code is still pretty similar to Q2, so it would be mostly plug and play of any missing features.
If you have any questions you can always feel free to email me at any time.
